- What is the difference between Certification and Certificate?
- To assist you in communicating with our colleagues and clients and to help avoid confusion in the marketplace, I have provided you the comparison below.
Certification |
Certificate |
Results from an assessment process that recognizes an individual's knowledge, skills and competency in a particular specialty. |
Results from educational process |
Typically requires professional experiences |
For both: newcomers and experienced professionals |
They are issued by professional associations (like NSPE, IPMA, EEA and ACI) which process such authority |
Are often issued by universities/training institutes , which have no authority to issue certifications |
Awarded by third-party, standard setting organization |
Awarded by educational programs or institutions |
Indicates competence as measured against a defensible set of standards, usually by application or exam |
Indicates completion of a courses or series of courses with specific focus, is different than a degree granting program |
Standards set through a defensible, industry-wide process(job analysis/role delineation) that results in an outline of required knowledge and skills |
Course content set a variety of ways (faculty committee, dean, instructor, occasionally through defensible analysis of topic area) |
Are normally more expensive than certificates because of the requirement to undergo testing and meet other rigorous qualification criteria |
Are usually low in cost because don’t require the student complete an examination and meet other rigorous qualification criteria. they are considered “certificates of training completion” |
Do provide the authority for the certified individual to use initials. Typically results in a designation to use after ones name (like CQD, CPP, CPPM, etc) , may result in a hang on the wall or keep in a wallet |
Don’t provide the authority for person receiving the document to use initials. Usually listed on a resume detailing education, may issue a document to hang on the wall |
- What are Benefits of Online Educations VS Traditional Education?
-
There’s an abundance of information regarding online education, and distance education is becoming increasingly popular for students everywhere. First and foremost, there are some obvious benefits in obtaining online degrees. For example, juggling a job, school and a home can be very difficult as far as commuting to the classroom every day.
With online education, you eliminate the need to attend classes, and instead access your coursework from an internet website. This presents an obvious benefit to the overworked college student because his commute is basically slashed in half. What’s more, many distance education programs allow students to complete the coursework any time during the day, while still adhering to overall deadlines. This allows for flexibility that a traditional classroom setting can ordinarily not provide.
However, is an online education truly comparable to the type of education a student would receive in an actual classroom? Many professionals in the field say yes, and certainly students seeking online degrees can confirm this response.
Not only does online learning provide a stimulating environment for students, but it promotes even interaction among every student because everyone has a say in classroom discussions. What’s more, online education programs allow each student to learn with the methods that work best for them. Plus, many employers respect online instant degrees as much as a traditional college degree, so there’s really no difference in the amount of education or respect a student will receive when attending an online college.
While traditional colleges will never be eliminated, there’s definitely been an increase in the amount of students attending online colleges in recent years.
Many people choose to follow the online education route for the diversity of material they can find, or because the teachers are more approachable via the internet than they would be in a classroom setting. Students definitely need discipline and self-motivation to succeed in obtaining online degrees, but there’s still the same level of help and support from teachers and students online that there would be in a classroom. What’s more, internet college students are learning skills that will be beneficial to them in the workforce and beyond because of the way technology is evolving today.
Online degrees are becoming an increasingly popular way to obtain a college education and many students are turning to online education because of the quality of material, convenience and the level of flexibility inherent in distance education programs. Because there’s no distinct differences between an online education and a traditional education, students are assured they are receiving the same kind of education that they would in a brick and mortar setting. There are definite benefits to online degree programs, and students with discipline and motivation can and will succeed greatly in online education programs.
- What is an accredited online degree?
-
Accreditation is a process of external quality review created and used by higher
Education to scrutinize educational institutions for quality assurance and quality improvement. However, there isn't international accreditation i.e. degree may be accredited in some countries and unaccredited in other countries.
In Egypt accreditation is carried out by governmental nonprofit organization. It is a Supreme Council of Universities www.scu.eun.eg
In United States, accreditation is carried out by many private, nonprofit organizations designed for this specific purpose. External quality review of higher education is a non governmental enterprise. The U.S. accreditation structure is decentralized and complex, mirroring the decentralization and complexity of American higher education. Council of Higher for Education Accreditation (CHEA) is nonprofit organization at has an excellent overview for recognition of accrediting organizations in USA. www.chea.org
An accredited degree online is basically a college degree online that is recognized and certified. Thus not only do you gain the education and knowledge but get the recognition that will help you pursue a better professional career. Accredited online courses allow you to pursue online education at your pace and time. You are enrolled in a school or university that has been given the stamp of approval by a national or state board of education. When choosing an online college it is best to get one that has gained accreditation to make sure that the degree is recognized by the company and the other schools. Furthermore, accredited degrees tend to have a better reputation and you will see a noticeable difference in the way people respond to your degree. By choosing an accredited online degree program as opposed to a traditional degree program, you are choosing a degree of a higher standard.
There are many different kinds of online degrees.
For example you can choose bachelors' degree, masters', or PhD degree, or even a course completion certification diploma. However some degrees must be completed before others (prerequisites). For example to get a masters accredited degree online, you must first complete a bachelors degree from an accredited college. To earn a bachelors accredited online degree, you need to have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. With an accredited degree, there will be more choices opened up to you and more occasions for advancement.
- What is a diploma/degree mill?
-
Want an “easy” college degree? Beware of illegal diploma mills!
Diploma mill: An institution of higher education operating without supervision of a state or professional agency and granting diplomas which are either fraudulent or because of the lack of proper standards worthless.
Diploma mills (or degree mills) are substandard or fraudulent “colleges” that offer potential students degrees with little or no serious work. Some are simple frauds: a mailbox to which people send money in exchange for paper that purports to be a college degree. Others require some nominal work from the student but do not require college-level course work that is normally required for a degree.
- Why are degree mills a problem?
-
“Mail drop” degree mills are simply fraud, a way for unscrupulous hucksters to make money while providing no service. More substantive degree mills devalue college degrees by making them available without college-level work. This makes all degrees suspect and confuses employers and professional licensing boards that need to know whether a person has an appropriate educational background.
- Are all unaccredited colleges degree mills?
-
Not all unaccredited colleges are necessarily degree mills in the traditional sense of the term. Some unaccredited colleges provide legitimate academic work. However, unless these colleges are approved by state "in USA" or Ministry of Higher Education "in Egypt" degrees from them cannot be used for public or licensed employment in these countries. The reason is that states (in USA,) laws under which such institutions are approved vary markedly from state to state. Some states have high standards; some states have lax standards or no enforcement capability.
- Does an ".edu" address mean that a school is legitimate?
-
No. Some diploma mills and unaccredited schools have been able to obtain ".edu" extensions and there is currently no action underway to make them cease using such extensions. An ".edu" extension means nothing regarding a school's quality or legitimacy.
- What is the difference between Education and Training?
-
Firstly, I had to define what the two terms meant. Education encompasses teaching and learning specific skills, and also something less tangible but more profound: the imparting of knowledge, positive judgment and well-developed wisdom. Education has as one of its fundamental aspects the imparting of culture from generation to generation (see socialization). Education means 'to draw out', facilitating realization of self-potential and latent talents of an individual. It is an application of pedagogy, a body of theoretical and applied research relating to teaching and learning and draws on many disciplines.
Training refers to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of the teaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relates to specific useful skills. It forms the core of apprenticeships and provides the backbone of content at technical colleges and polytechnics. In addition to the basic training required for a trade, occupation or profession, it is recognized today that there is need to continue training beyond initial qualifications to maintain, upgrade and update skills throughout working life. In the context of many professions and occupations this may be referred to as professional development.
However, when I would list a characteristic of education, the opposite term seemed to fit training. Here are the differences that I came up with:
Education |
Training |
theoretical |
practical |
Field-independent |
Field-dependent (meaning that one is usually trained to do something specific to his or her content area). |
broad-based |
narrow-based |
Soft skills |
Hard skills |
lifelong |
specific amount of time |
abstract |
tangible |
- What is Knowledge Economy?
-
The knowledge economy is a vague term that refers either to an economy of knowledge focused on the production and management of knowledge, or a knowledge-based economy. In the second meaning, more frequently used, it refers to the use of knowledge to produce economic benefits. The phrase was popularized if not invented by Peter Drucker as the title of Chapter 12 in his book The Age of Discontinuity. Various observers describe today's global economy as one in transition to a "knowledge economy", as an extension of "information society". The transition requires that the rules and practices that determined success in the industrial economy need rewriting in an interconnected, globalize economy where knowledge resources such as know-how, expertise, and intellectual property are more critical than other economic resources such as land, natural resources, or even manpower. According to analysts of the "knowledge economy," these rules need to be rewritten at the levels of firms and industries in terms of knowledge management and at the level of public policy as knowledge policy or knowledge-related policy.

- How to take the right Decision?
-
You must make decisions throughout every day; but with many of them, you can make an automatic response. When somebody asks you if you want a cup of tea or coffee, you do not have to ponder the question before making your decision.
You may be a student, and on whim decide for or against continuing your studies; You may be ten years into your career, and find you are overlooked for a plum job in a new division; you get drunk that night and decide whether to remain in that occupation or seek a new challenge with another company. You may be an athlete or budding sports personality as a youth, and at your first setback, or when the training starts to bite hard, you wonder whether to quit. When it comes to take a decision of that, you have to weigh up all the factors in your mind; sometimes you have to do this very quickly, or you can miss an opportunity. On the balance sheet, you place such things as the financial cost, the time it will consume, the quality of the product, the reputation of the supplier, the benefits it will provide, the life of the product, and its long-term effects.
You put the plus points on the right-hand side and the negative ones to the left, and try to score them. Allocation of the points can be made in various ways, and perhaps the best is to make them a percentage. The cost of an item can be a percentage of your weekly expendable income, and if it is something that is going to consume 50% of your free time that week, you put that on the left-hand side.
Similarly, where some software is going to save you time, you can work out its percentage and add that to the right-hand column.
This is a time-consuming exercise that can only give you a mathematical answer, but the reason for doing it is that it makes think about each factor and its real worth in your life. Very often, you will realize that your desire for a particular product is just that - a desire for something new - and it will soon end up in the storage cupboard, which is already full.
Sometimes, however, there are benefits to you and your family that cannot be accurately measured; and a mountain holiday in a rented recreational vehicle that brings your family together can be invaluable, and has to be considered.
The problem with looking at a decision logically is that it ignores what your heart is telling you, and you can easily make the wrong choice. You can spend a long time considering all the facts logically and reaching an adult, balanced decision; however, sometimes you arrange the facts to suit the decision your heart wished you to take.
All the facts point towards selling your old, roomy family home that requires a lot of repairs and maintenance for that spacious home in a new development; but your heart is telling you that you love the house, location, and neighbors, so you stay.
Your friends gradually move away, your roof leaks, the kids have too far to travel to school, and you get a letter from the council about the new highway that wants part of your backyard! Do not let your emotions sway you into making a decision.
On the other hand, do not make a decision if something deep inside is telling you that it is wrong, because that is when you must listen.
Your employer offers you a great new job in another town that means you and the whole family has to relocate; great, you must go for it, if all the other factors are okay. However, if you have that niggles inside that is telling you not to do it, then it is probably time to listen.
When it is time to make your next decision, make sure you have all the facts, look at the obvious choice, and if your heart is not against you, go for it with power and confidence!
